Xiaomi has moved the launch of its YU7 crossover to the end of June, earlier than the initially planned July date. The all-electric crossover will be introduced alongside the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, as announced by founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun on Weibo.

Lei Jun stated, “We are preparing, see you at the end of the month!”

Why the Earlier Launch Matters

The Chinese tech giant has been drumming up interest for its all-electric crossover. Xiaomi YU7 display models have been available in 317 Xiaomi EV stores across 86 cities in China since June 13, following the vehicle’s May 22 debut.

So far, the YU7’s pre-order inquiries have outperformed the SU7 sedan, with deposits being three times higher by May 25, as stated by Xiaomi president Lu Weibing during an earnings call. This is not surprising as the crossover market is larger than the sedan market.

For buyers, this earlier launch could influence choices amidst rising EV expectations, though success depends on pricing. Xiaomi is set to finalize the YU7’s price 1-2 days before the vehicle’s launch.

EV Market Dynamics and Xiaomi’s Strategy

The YU7’s launch underscores Xiaomi’s aggressive approach into the electric vehicle market. The company’s first vehicle, the SU7, undercut rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 in price while offering a notable amount of features. This has helped the SU7 hit over 20,000 monthly delivery volumes for eight consecutive months, according to CNEV Post.

Lei stated during an investor conference on June 3 that Xiaomi’s electric vehicle business is expected to become profitable in the second half of 2025. For this to happen, the YU7’s launch must be successful, and the vehicle’s deliveries must be rolled out without many issues. Fortunately, the SU7’s ramp has been smooth, putting some confidence in Xiaomi’s capability to accelerate the production and delivery of its EVs.
