Denza Previews New Z9S Electric Sedan to Rival Xiaomi SU7

BYD’s premium brand Denza has released the first official images of the upcoming Z9S, a new all-electric luxury sedan that is expected to compete directly with the Xiaomi SU7.

The teaser introduces the model in a new “Morning Glow Purple” exterior color and offers a closer look at the fastback sedan as Denza continues expanding its premium EV lineup.

Denza reveals first look at the Z9S

Denza shared the first official images of the Z9S on Weibo, describing the vehicle as a “technology-focused luxury intelligent sedan.”

The preview showcases the sedan in a light violet metallic finish called Morning Glow Purple, while highlighting several of the car’s design elements, including meteor-inspired headlights, frameless doors, semi-concealed door handles, yellow brake calipers, and a sleek fastback profile, according to CNEV Post.

According to previous filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Z9S measures 5,090 mm (200.4 inches) long, 1,980 mm (78.0 inches) wide, and 1,490 mm (58.7 inches) tall, with a 3,025 mm (119.1-inch) wheelbase.

Those dimensions place it close to the Xiaomi SU7, signaling that Denza intends to compete in China’s increasingly competitive premium electric sedan segment.

Performance and technology target the premium EV market

The Z9S will be available with two electric powertrains, both using permanent magnet synchronous motors and offering a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

The entry-level version produces 320 kW (429 horsepower), while the higher-output model increases peak power to 370 kW (496 horsepower). Both variants use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs.

Denza is also expected to offer additional versions, including a long-range single-motor model and a variant equipped with the company’s e3 technology.

The sedan is anticipated to feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B advanced driver-assistance system, DiSus-A intelligent air suspension, and a next-generation AI-powered smart cockpit.

The Z9S will become the latest addition to Denza’s Z-series lineup, joining the Z9 and Z9 GT. Based on China’s typical vehicle launch schedule, the model is expected to officially enter the market within the next few months.

The preview comes as Denza accelerates its product expansion. Earlier this month, the brand unveiled the all-electric Denza Z supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, while June deliveries climbed to a record 20,352 vehicles.
