That surge gave the Chinese automaker its best month of new energy vehicle sales so far this year, even as its plug-in hybrid sales kept falling compared with a year ago.

BYD sold 305,743 battery electric passenger vehicles in October, passing the 300,000 mark for the first time and setting a monthly record for the third month in a row.
That surge gave the Chinese automaker its best month of new energy vehicle sales so far this year, even as its plug-in hybrid sales kept falling compared with a year ago.
In total, BYD sold 490,168 NEVs in October, 10.97% more than a year earlier and 5.74% more than in September. The company has now grown sales year over year for six straight months and month over month for eight straight months, although annual growth slowed from 16.98% in September.
CnEVPost’s data puts October as BYD’s fourth-biggest sales month ever and its best since December 2024, with only the final quarter of 2024 ahead of it, according to CnEVPost.
Fully electric models did most of the work. BEV passenger sales rose 37.38% year over year and 11.94% from September, and BEVs made up 63.28% of BYD’s passenger vehicle sales, compared with 59.81% in September and 50.95% a year earlier.
Plug-in hybrids went the other way. BYD sold 177,382 PHEV passenger vehicles in October, down 17.23% year over year and 3.37% from September, the segment’s second annual decline in a row.

Year to date, BYD has sold 3,621,744 NEVs, down 2.16%, an improvement from the 3.94% decline through September.
BYD is also refreshing key models. The second-generation Seagull arrived on October 20 with a bigger body and flash charging on select versions, and the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i followed on October 27 with a larger body, more electric range and optional LiDAR. Next up is the second-generation Seal 07, due November 5 with BEV and plug-in hybrid versions.
