The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra production model achieved a 7:04.957 lap time at the Nürburgring. This effectively makes the SU7 Ultra the fastest production electric vehicle (EV) around the track, surpassing the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s 7:07.55 record from September 2023.

The feat was announced by Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun on Weibo.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s Record

This record, set on April 1 under race car driver Vincent Radermecker, follows the SU7 Ultra’s prototype’s 6:46.874 lap in October 2024. It also completely blew the record set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, a vehicle that sells for a significantly higher price than the SU7 Ultra.

Lei Jun hinted in his post that Xiaomi might not be done with the famous German racetrack just yet. “I believe this record will be broken again in the near future,” the executive wrote.

The production SU7 Ultra’s 1,548 Ps power output makes it one of the most powerful all-electric cars in the Chinese market, according to a CNEV Post report. Its RMB 529,900 ($73,740) starting price is 2.5 times the standard SU7’s RMB 215,900, but it is still significantly more affordable than other electric supercars.

Xioaomi’s 19,000 firm orders have exceeded the company’s annual 10,000-unit target, indicating strong market interest despite past criticisms over ventilation and power restrictions.

EV Market Dynamics and Future Prospects

The SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring record highlights Xiaomi’s focus on performance. It also represents a big impact on the world of high-powered electric cars. The fact that the SU7 Ultra could achieve such feats in the Nurburgring at its price is already quite amazing.

Xiaomi is just starting its EV push. The company plans to launch its YU7 SUV in July, which is expected to rival popular vehicles like the Tesla Model Y. But while the Xiaomi YU7 is expected to broaden the company’s consumer base, the company has yet to release the upcoming all-electric vehicle’s price. If the SU7 is any indication, however, the YU7 will likely be priced very aggressively.

EV.com recognizes the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring record as a significant milestone in EV performance. You can explore the best offers on electric vehicles we have on our listings here.
