In a remarkable display of manufacturing prowess, Xiaomi has announced that its automotive division has produced the 100,000th unit of its flagship SU7 electric vehicle (EV) in a mere 230 days since its launch.

Xiaomi, the consumer electronics powerhouse, ventured into the EV market just three years ago, but the company has wasted no time in establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with in the EV space.

Rapid Ramp-Up and Production Targets

Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, expressed that the company initially targeted to produce 60,000 SU7 EVs in 2024. However, the model’s overwhelming demand led Xiaomi to quickly bolster its production capacity. Just 32 days after the SU7’s launch, the company had already built 10,000 units, and it continued to ramp up its manufacturing efforts.

By July, Xiaomi’s production lines were fully operational, hinting at the possibility of doubling its initial production targets for the year. As a result, Lei Jun announced that the company has now surpassed the 100,000-unit milestone, a feat accomplished in under eight months since the SU7’s debut.

The Xiaomi SU7 is the company’s flagship EV model, competing directly with Tesla’s Model 3. The sedan is available in three variants – Standard, Pro, and Max – with starting prices ranging from RMB 215,900 ($29,850) to RMB 299,900 ($41,550).

Xiaomi has also unveiled a more powerful tri-motor variant called the SU7 Ultra, which is expected to hit the market in 2025. The company plans to further expand its EV lineup with a second flagship model to take on the Tesla Model Y.

Maintaining Breakneck Pace

Xiaomi’s automotive division has maintained an incredibly rapid pace since its inception. The company not only launched the SU7 in record time but has also quickly ramped up production to meet overwhelming customer demand.

With the 100,000th SU7 rolling off the assembly line, Xiaomi is now poised to exceed its revised target of 120,000 units for 2024, potentially achieving this milestone in less than 275 days since the model’s launch.

Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, acknowledged the impressive speed, stating, “As a newcomer to the auto industry, this speed is already remarkable.” The company plans to hold a special ceremony to celebrate the 100,000th SU7 production milestone.

Xiaomi’s ability to rapidly design, manufacture, and deliver its first EV in such a short timeframe is proof of the company’s engineering prowess and its goal to disrupt the automotive industry. With the SU7’s success and the upcoming launch of additional models, Xiaomi is positioning itself as a formidable player in the global EV market.
