Genesis has unveiled a significantly updated version of its Electrified GV70 luxury electric vehicle (EV), showcasing improvements in battery technology, driving range, and interior refinement. The refresh comes less than three years after the vehicle’s initial launch.

Improved Battery and Range

In detail, the update is a new fourth-generation battery system, which increases capacity from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh. This enhancement extends the vehicle’s driving range to 423 km (263 miles), a meaningful improvement over the previous model’s 400-km (248 miles) range. Despite the larger battery capacity, Genesis has managed to maintain impressive charging speeds, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 19 minutes when connected to a 350 kW fast charger.

Refined and Enhanced Design

The exterior design evolution reflects Genesis’s “athletic elegance” philosophy, with several notable refinements. The signature crest grille now features a sophisticated Gradient G-Matrix pattern, while the Two-Line headlights incorporate new Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology for improved illumination. The vehicle’s profile is enhanced by redesigned wheels, available in both 19-inch and 20-inch matte dark gray variants.

In terms of the interior, Genesis has created what it calls a more immersive luxury experience. The centerpiece is a new 27-inch connected car Integrated Cockpit (ccIC) display system, complemented by a touchscreen HVAC panel. Adding to the premium ambiance, the interior features exclusive “Milky Way Pattern Mood Lighting” and refined details such as a crystal electronic shift dial bearing the Genesis branding.

Upgraded Driving Experience

The driving experience has also received attention from Genesis engineers. The vehicle now includes Highway Body Motion Control technology, which helps minimize sudden movements during highway driving by anticipating and adjusting for abrupt acceleration or deceleration from vehicles ahead. The suspension system has been upgraded with hydro bushings now present on both front and rear, contributing to improved ride comfort and reduced vibration.

In an interesting nod to traditional driving experiences, Genesis has included a Virtual Gear Shift function, which simulates the feeling of gear changes in a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. This feature, also found in other recent Hyundai Motor Group EVs, aims to provide a familiar driving sensation for those transitioning from conventional vehicles.

U.S. Arrival and Pricing

For the United States (U.S.) market, the updated Electrified GV70 will arrive in the first half of 2025 as a 2026 model. American versions will include an NACS port, enabling access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. While official U.S. pricing has not been announced, the vehicle currently starts at 75.2 million won (around $51,700) in its home market of South Korea with EV tax benefits included.

The timing of this update appears strategic, as Genesis is currently offering significant incentives on the 2025 model year GV70 EV, with lease bonuses of up to $16,750 available. This aggressive pricing strategy, combined with the technical improvements and design refinements, positions the Electrified GV70 as a compelling option in the increasingly competitive luxury electric SUV segment.

As a result, this update to the Electrified GV70 reflects Genesis’s broader strategy of continuous improvement and innovation in the EV space, as the luxury brand works to establish itself as a serious competitor to traditional European luxury automakers in the electric era.
