YouTube’s Engineering Explained Host Replaces Problematic Lucid With Mustang Mach-E GT

Jason Fenske, creator of the Engineering Explained YouTube channel, has replaced his problematic Lucid Air with a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.

Fenske purchased the electric crossover as his new daily driver after Lucid bought back his sedan under lemon law provisions, and he is now giving Ford’s performance-oriented Mach-E a chance to become his next long-term EV.

Fenske Moves on From Troubled Lucid Air

Fenske has owned several EVs and other vehicles over the years, including a Tesla Model 3 that he particularly enjoyed. He later purchased a Lucid Air, but the ownership experience became frustrating because of software glitches, hardware failures and what he viewed as design problems.

Lucid ultimately bought the sedan back from Fenske under lemon law provisions in May, roughly 11 months after he purchased it.

With the Lucid gone, Fenske began looking for another EV that could serve as his daily driver. He had considered both the Rivian R2 and Genesis GV60, but neither was readily available when he needed a replacement.

That led him to a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, which he has now purchased as his new daily vehicle.

Physical Controls Stand Out in Mach-E GT

Fenske is hoping the Mach-E GT will provide a more trouble-free EV ownership experience. One feature he particularly appreciates is the presence of physical controls for several important functions, including the lights, wipers, gear selector and audio volume.

The Mach-E also represents another attempt by Fenske to find an EV he can enjoy as a daily driver. He previously admired his Tesla Model 3 but decided against continuing with the brand for political reasons, while his subsequent Lucid ownership ended with the vehicle being bought back.

The Mach-E GT is now the latest addition to Fenske’s garage, alongside vehicles such as his Ford Maverick and 2018 Mustang Shelby GT350.

Fenske’s experience with the Mach-E is still in its early stages, so it remains to be seen whether the Ford can deliver the reliable ownership experience he is looking for.
