Hyundai is preparing to launch its extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) offensive in 2027, starting with a Santa Fe EREV capable of traveling more than 600 miles on a full charge and fuel supply.
The Santa Fe EREV is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2027 and will be built at Hyundai’s Alabama plant. The company says the powertrain is designed to provide an EV-like driving experience while addressing range and charging concerns.
Hyundai’s luxury Genesis brand will also introduce an unnamed EREV SUV in early 2027, with a targeted total range of more than 640 miles.
The Santa Fe will be the first Hyundai model to receive the company’s new EREV powertrain when it arrives in the first half of 2027.
Hyundai says the setup combines a large battery with electric propulsion and a gasoline-powered generator, allowing the vehicle to retain an EV-like driving experience while providing substantially more total range, according to Ford Authority.
The company is targeting more than 600 miles of total range for the Santa Fe EREV. Production will take place at Hyundai’s Alabama facility, making the Santa Fe EREV a U.S.-built addition to the automaker’s electrified lineup.

Hyundai’s EREV strategy will extend to its luxury Genesis brand.
Genesis is preparing an unnamed EREV SUV for launch in early 2027, with Hyundai targeting more than 640 miles of total range.
Hyundai believes EREV technology can combine some of the advantages of gasoline and electric powertrains, particularly for customers who want electric driving characteristics without the range concerns associated with a fully electric vehicle.
Hyundai also provided some details about the battery technology planned for its upcoming EREVs.
The company says the high-performance cells used for the EREV arriving in the first half of 2027 will allow it to use less than half the battery capacity of a comparable EV while delivering equivalent battery performance and EV driving dynamics.
Hyundai also says its EV models launching next year will use mid-nickel NCM cells. According to the company, the chemistry can reduce battery costs by around 30% while maintaining performance under real-world driving conditions.
The upcoming EREV models will therefore give Hyundai another option as it expands its electrified lineup, particularly in larger vehicles where long-distance capability remains an important consideration for buyers.
