Cadillac ranked highest among luxury automakers in J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study, scoring 641 points on a 1,000-point scale.

The result puts Cadillac ahead of Genesis, BMW, Lincoln and Mercedes-Benz in the luxury category, although Tesla and Rivian both posted substantially higher scores while remaining ineligible for the official rankings.

Cadillac leads luxury tech rankings

J.D. Power’s annual Tech Experience Index, or TXI, evaluates how owners experience technology in their vehicles, including how much they appreciate new features and how frequently they encounter problems using them.

Cadillac scored 641 points to lead the luxury segment. Genesis followed with 559 points, while BMW scored 524, Lincoln scored 522 and Mercedes-Benz recorded 513, according to GM Authority.

Tesla, meanwhile, posted the highest score among all brands at 924 points, followed by Rivian at 781. However, J.D. Power does not consider either automaker eligible for the official rankings because they do not meet the study’s award criteria.

Even so, J.D. Power includes both brands when calculating the segment average, which stood at 681 points. That means Cadillac would rank third if Tesla and Rivian were included in the official standings.

The 2026 TXI study evaluates 40 automotive technologies across five categories: comfort and convenience, connected vehicle, driver assist, electric vehicle and smart vehicle.

The Cadillac Escalade received recognition in the comfort and convenience category for its Rear Camera Mirror technology. No vehicle received an award in the smart vehicle category this year.

Owners favor useful technology

J.D. Power’s study is designed to measure both technology adoption and execution. The firm examines how much owners appreciate new features as well as the problems they encounter while using them.

The 2026 study collected responses from 68,064 owners of new 2026 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The vehicles were registered between March 2025 and February 2026.

Some technologies received particularly positive feedback. Smart ignition systems that eliminate the need for a power button and smart climate controls, including AI-assisted cabin adjustments, were among the features owners appreciated while reporting relatively few complaints.

Other technologies proved less popular. Hands-free driving systems, including GM’s Super Cruise, and passenger-side entertainment displays were cited among features that irritated owners.

J.D. Power director of customer success Doron Hikry said automakers have an opportunity to focus on technology that makes driving easier rather than more complicated.

Cadillac’s result represents a significant improvement from last year’s study. The brand ranked second among luxury automakers in 2025 with a score of 526, behind Genesis. Tesla and Rivian were again unranked that year but posted higher scores than the other luxury brands.
