From Conquering Deserts To Groundbreaking Torque Technology, Range Rover’s First All-Electric SUV Is Set To Hit The Luxury EV Market In 2025

Range Rover is preparing to make an entrance into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the upcoming Range Rover Electric which has already begun to turn heads during its intensive testing phase in the United Arab Emirates.

The electric SUV has undergone what the company describes as “the most intensive testing any Range Rover vehicle has ever endured,” subjecting prototypes to extreme temperatures reaching up to 122°F (50°C) with 90% humidity.
According to Thomas Müller, Range Rover’s executive director of product engineering, the EV is not just surviving these conditions but excelling beyond expectations.

During testing, the Range Rover Electric successfully conquered the 300-foot “Big Red” dune in Sharjah’s Al Badayer desert, matching and sometimes surpassing the performance of its internal combustion engine counterparts. The EV is expected to offer an impressive wading depth of 33.8 inches, even outperforming the GMC Hummer EV’s 32-inch capability.

Notably, the new Intelligent Torque Management system represents a significant leap forward, reducing torque reaction time at each wheel from 100 milliseconds to an impressive 1 millisecond. This breakthrough allows for unprecedented traction control, particularly evident when navigating challenging terrain like fine sand.

The automotive world is taking notice, with over 48,000 clients already on the waiting list for the 2025 model. While specific details about battery size and motor power remain under wraps, speculation suggests the vehicle might feature a four-motor system, with one motor potentially dedicated to each wheel.

Furthermore, Range Rover is clearly positioning this electric SUV as the pinnacle of luxury and performance. The company emphasizes that the vehicle maintains the elegant design of its gas-powered predecessors while introducing cutting-edge EV technology.
The Range Rover Electric is set to hit showrooms in 2025, with plans for additional electric models to follow, including a Sport version and potentially a compact electric SUV based on the Velar platform. With more EV models hitting the market, Range Rover appears prepared to set a new standard for luxury electric SUVs.
