Porsche Expands EV Lineup With New RWD Base Model And Macan 4S Trim

Porsche has announced two new additions to its all-electric Macan electric vehicle (EV) lineup by introducing a rear-wheel drive (RWD) base model and a sportier Macan 4S trim.

According to Porsche, the new RWD Macan EV possess a single motor on the rear axle that delivers 335 horsepower, with a boost function increasing output to 355 horsepower during launch control. Also, it has an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 136 mph. Notably, it weighs 243 lbs less than the all-wheel drive (AWD) Macan 4, which could potentially improve its range.

Placed between the Macan 4 and the top-tier Macan Turbo is the new Macan 4S. Particularly, this trim comes with a dual-motor setup, delivering 442 horsepower in standard mode and up to 509 horsepower with overboost power. The 4S has an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 149 mph.

Both new trims utilize the same 95 kWh usable battery capacity as the Macan 4 and Turbo, featuring 270 kW fast-charging capability. This allows a 10% to 80% charge in around 21 minutes. Moreover, they come with Standard equipment including adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management, with rear-wheel steering available as an option.

Furthermore, Porsche has also introduced new design options across the Macan EV range including a Slate Grey Neo exterior color and a new 20-inch wheel design. An off-road design package is now available, which improves the approach angle to 17.5 degrees and increases ground clearance.

The pricing for the RWD Macan EV starts at $77,295, positioning it as the most affordable option in the electric Macan range. The Macan 4S is priced at $86,895. Both prices include the $1,995 delivery fee.

Interestingly, this expansion of the Macan EV lineup arrives at a critical time for Porsche as sales of its Taycan EV have seen a significant decline in the U.S. market with recalls of around 32,000 units from model years 2020 to 2025.

With Porsche shifting plans to discontinue several of its popular gas-powered models by 2026, the introduction of these new trims spotlights Porsche’s goal to diversify its EV lineup. As of now, orders for these new trims are now open, with deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024.
