ChargePoint and Porsche Cars North America have announced a strategic partnership to integrate ChargePoint’s extensive electric vehicle (EV) charging network into the Porsche Charging Service. This partnership will expand the number of chargers available to Porsche drivers to over 100,000 across North America.

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, expressed excitement about the partnership with Porsche stating, “We are pleased to offer more charging options for Porsche drivers, and ChargePoint software will enhance their experience by enabling integrated and frictionless charging.”

In detail, the partnership will allow Porsche EV owners to utilize ChargePoint and roaming partner charging stations seamlessly through the My Porsche app. In the app, it enables Porsche owners to conveniently search, use, and pay at supported charging stations. As a result, Porsche Charging Service customers will have access to over 75% of charging ports available across North America.

Timo Resch, President and CEO of PCNA, expressed the importance of this partnership stating, “We passionately believe in choice, and as a result, we are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance our customer experience and expand charging options. This is a significant step in that direction, and well-timed as we look forward to the arrival of the new Taycan at Porsche Centers this summer, and that of the all-new Macan Electric later this year.”

As for the aforementioned Macan EV, its presence has been making headlines as it garnered over 10,000 pre-orders within four weeks of its global reveal. In regards to its European market, Porsche recently started its Leipzig production plant in Saxony, Germany, which also assembles Macan EV models. Furthermore, Porsche is exploring adapter solutions to allow existing EVs to access the Tesla Supercharger network beginning in the first half of 2025. Interestingly, Porsche also announced plans to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port for future offerings in North America, starting in 2025.

As the partnership will build on Porsche’s aim of providing an enhanced charging infrastructure and experience for its EV owners, the impending launch of its new Taycan and Macan EV model will deliver additional offerings to potential buyers with answers to concerns regarding the lack of charging compatibility for them. The ChargePoint integration is set to go live in Q4 2024.
