Polestar Aims To Expand The Plug & Charge Feature To Other Models In Its Lineup By 2025

Polestar has announced a significant upgrade to its flagship electric vehicle (EV), the Polestar 3. The company has introduced a new feature called Plug & Charge, designed to streamline the public charging experience for its buyers.
The Plug & Charge feature acts as a digital wallet, allowing the vehicle to communicate directly with compatible charging stations. This innovative technology automates the authentication and payment processes, eliminating several steps from the traditional charging routine.
Lutz Stiegler, CTO of Polestar, emphasized the convenience of this new feature: “With Plug & Charge, we offer a premium service to Polestar 3 customers that makes charging their car on the road as easy and hassle-free as possible. This advanced technology will make a real difference to customers’ day-to-day life.”

According to Polestar, Polestar 3 owners can activate the Plug & Charge function through their vehicle’s charging settings and connect it to the Polestar Charge App or another e-mobility service provider. Once activated, drivers can simply plug their vehicle into a compatible charging station, and the charging process will begin automatically without any additional steps.
This streamlined process means that drivers no longer need to manually select charging locations, confirm connections, or initiate payments via an app or card. The vehicle handles all communication with the charger, making the entire process seamless and user-friendly.

The Plug & Charge feature is currently available at over 9,500 high-power charging points across Europe, including selected Ionity and Mer locations. This extensive network ensures that Polestar 3 owners have access to convenient charging options during their travels.
Furthermore, the Polestar Charge App provides access to more than 800,000 public charging points across Europe. The app also offers subscription-based fast charging with discounted rates at thousands of locations, making electric vehicle charging not only more convenient but also more cost-effective for Polestar customers.
While the Plug & Charge feature is currently exclusive to the Polestar 3, the company has plans to expand its availability to other models in its range by 2025. This rollout strategy demonstrates Polestar’s commitment to enhancing the EV ownership experience across its entire product line.
The introduction of Plug & Charge technology by Polestar represents a significant step forward in addressing one of the key challenges faced by EV owners: the complexity of public charging. By simplifying this process, Polestar is not only improving the experience for its buyers but also setting a new standard.
As more automakers and charging networks adopt similar technologies, the overall electric vehicle ecosystem is likely to become more user-friendly, potentially accelerating the adoption of EVs among mainstream buyers. The Plug & Charge feature is now available for Polestar 3 owners.
