The Peugeot e-408 Features 157 kW Of Power And 345 Nm Of Torque With An Innovative i-Cockpit design

Peugeot has officially launched the all-electric version of its 408 model, the e-408, marking a significant addition to its growing electric vehicle (EV) lineup. This stylish fastback crossover blends elements of a sedan and an SUV, aiming to carve out a unique position in the competitive electric C-segment market.

According to Peugeot, the e-408 comes equipped with a 58.2 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery, which Peugeot claims will provide a WLTP range of up to 453 km (281 miles). The electric motor delivers up to 157 kW (210 horsepower) of power and 345 Nm (245 lb-ft) of torque, marking an increase from the 115 kW motor found in some of Peugeot’s other electric models.
The e-408 provides three driving modes to help manage power and range: Normal mode delivers 140 kW (190 horsepower), Eco mode reduces output to 125 kW (170 horsepower) for greater efficiency, and Sport mode unleashes the full 157 kW (210 horsepower) for maximum performance.

The e-408 supports AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 120 kW. At maximum DC charging speed, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in just over 30 minutes. While competitive, these charging speeds fall short of some rivals in the market.
To enhance efficiency, the e-408 features a heat pump as standard and arrives with an aerodynamic design that delivers a drag coefficient of 0.28.

The Peugeot e-408 continues the brand’s distinct design language, showcasing its sleek “feline” aesthetics. At the front, a smooth grille is framed by aggressive, fang-like headlights, while the rear haunches resemble cat’s ears, giving the EV a unique, dynamic profile. The claw-shaped rear lights complete the design, reinforcing its bold look.
In terms of dimensions, the e-408 is 4.69 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, and 1.49 meters tall, with a wheelbase of 2.79 meters. The crossover provides a practical boot capacity of 471 liters, which expands to 1,545 liters when the rear seats are folded down, offering ample storage space.

For the interior, the e-408 features Peugeot’s signature i-Cockpit design. The interior is equipped with a compact steering wheel, a 10-inch raised digital instrument panel, and a 10-inch central infotainment screen, ensuring a modern and intuitive driving experience.
Moreover, the e-408 supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offering seamless smartphone integration. A standout technological feature is the integration of ChatGPT, which can be activated by the phrase “Ok Peugeot.” However, the brand acknowledges that pronunciation of its name may present some challenges for users.

The e-408 comes in two trim levels: Allure and GT. The GT trim includes additional features such as thicker windows for improved sound insulation, upgraded headlights, an electric tailgate, and enhanced driver assistance systems, making it a more premium option for those seeking extra comfort and convenience. While pricing has not been clarified, it has been suggested to be priced around 46,600 euros (around $51,048).
Peugeot positions the e-408 as a competitor to established EVs like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. While it may not match their range capabilities, Peugeot defends its battery choice by citing that the average daily commute for a C-segment car buyer is only 45 km (around 27 miles).

The Peugeot e-408 is set to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, with European deliveries beginning in early 2025. Moreover, the EV comes with Peugeot’s eight-year Allure Care warranty.
As Peugeot’s twelfth EV in its lineup, the e-408 represents the brand’s ongoing commitment to electrification. Its unique blend of sedan and SUV styling, coupled with modern technology and respectable electric performance, may help it find its niche in an increasingly crowded EV market.
