Jaguar’s Bold Leap: First Glimpse Of Ultra-Luxury Electric GT In Road Tests

Jaguar’s ambitious transformation into an all-electric ultra-luxury brand has taken a new step forward with the first sighting of its new electric four-door GT testing on British roads. 

The camouflaged prototype offers an early look at what will become the spearhead of Jaguar’s complete reinvention, set to begin in 2025. The test vehicle reveals a dramatic shift from Jaguar’s current design language, featuring a low-riding, extended silhouette that stands in stark contrast to the brand’s existing crossover SUVs and sedans.

Moreover, the prototype sports aggressive front and rear bumper designs, a notably long hood, and a steeply raked windshield, suggesting a bold new direction for the iconic British marque.

The upcoming Jaguar GT will be constructed on Jaguar’s exclusive JAE (Jaguar Electric Architecture) platform, a foundation designed to support the company’s forthcoming lineup of luxury EVs. This platform marks a significant advancement, tailored to meet the demands of high-performance, high-end EVs that align with Jaguar’s luxury standards.

Additionally, the vehicle’s advanced electrical architecture will support cutting-edge features, laying the groundwork for next-generation capabilities that promise an elevated driving experience. 

The new model signals Jaguar’s ambitious move into the ultra-luxury segment, with prices expected to exceed £100,000 ($130,000). This positioning puts the vehicle in direct competition with other ultra-luxury EVs including the Cadillac CELESTIQ. 

Though its official name has yet to be announced, Jaguar’s electric GT will be manufactured at the Solihull facility in the UK, the same site where the company recently concluded production of its combustion-engine models as part of its shift toward electrification. This new EV model has already logged tens of thousands of testing miles, encompassing both virtual simulations and real-world road conditions, as Jaguar gears up for its global launch.

Several key milestones are on the horizon. In December 2024, the GT’s design will be revealed to the public with the “Design Vision Concept” at Miami Art Week, offering a first look at Jaguar’s vision for its next generation of luxury EVs.

Following this, the GT’s global debut is scheduled for the summer of 2025, with customer deliveries expected to begin in 2026. These upcoming events mark a significant chapter in Jaguar’s journey towards a fully electric future, highlighting its commitment to innovation and luxury in the EV space.

This new GT represents more than just a new model; it marks the beginning of Jaguar’s complete transformation after 75 years of producing internal combustion vehicles. The company has already begun phasing out its existing lineup, including the F-Type, E-Pace, XF, and soon the F-Pace SUV, to make way for its new all-electric future.

While the official name remains unconfirmed, recent noted States (U.S.) trademark applications suggest the vehicle might be called the I-Type, following the naming convention of Jaguar’s first EV, the I-Pace, which ended production in 2024.
