Jaguar confirmed that its upcoming electric four-door GT will be called the Jaguar Type 01, marking the first production model in the company’s new EV era.

The vehicle is expected to debut later this year with a tri-motor powertrain producing more than 986 horsepower.

Jaguar revives historic naming strategy with new EV flagship

The production model follows the Type 00 concept and continues Jaguar’s historic “Type” naming convention, which previously appeared on vehicles such as the C Type and E Type.

Jaguar said the “zero” in Type 01 references the electric powertrain and zero tailpipe emissions, while the “one” identifies the vehicle as the first model in the brand’s next-generation lineup, according to Car & Driver.

The automaker also released a teaser image showing the Type 01 badge integrated into a thin horizontal design element between the hood and windshield. The styling feature, referred to as the “strikethrough motif,” first appeared on the Type 00 concept and is expected to carry into production.

Jaguar’s updated “leaper” logo, introduced on the concept vehicle’s front fenders, also incorporates the horizontal line design language.

Tri motor powertrain targets nearly 1,000 horsepower

Jaguar confirmed that the Type 01 will use a tri-motor setup generating more than 986 horsepower and 958 pound-feet of torque.

The automaker has not yet released full specifications or performance figures beyond the powertrain details, though previous reports have suggested a starting price near $130,000.

Camouflaged prototypes of the Type 01 are expected to appear in Monaco ahead of the upcoming Formula E race, with the full reveal planned for later this year.

The vehicle represents a major step in Jaguar’s transition toward an all-electric future as the company prepares to reposition itself further into the luxury EV segment.
