Honda has announced plans to showcase two prototype electric vehicles (EVs) from its innovative 0 Series line, evolved from the “Saloon” and “Space-Hub” concepts, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas.

With production models scheduled to launch in 2026, the prototypes mark a crucial evolution in Honda’s EV strategy, building upon the company’s “Thin, Light and Wise” development philosophy introduced last year. While Honda currently offers the Prologue EV, which utilizes GM’s Ultium Platform, these new models will be Honda’s first entirely bespoke EVs designed from the ground up.

The Saloon prototype features a distinctive fastback design with unique rectangular lighting elements reminiscent of vintage aesthetics, while the Space-Hub adopts a minivan-like profile with minimal overhangs. Early testing of the 0 Series platform, though conducted using a modified CR-V body, has demonstrated promising performance characteristics, including responsive acceleration and stable cornering due to its low center of gravity.

Cutting-Edge Technological Innovations

Beyond the vehicles themselves, Honda plans to introduce several technological innovations at the January 7 press conference. These include a proprietary vehicle operating system, advanced automated driving technologies, and a new System on Chip (SoC) architecture designed specifically for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV). This technical foundation will be crucial for the “Wise” aspect of Honda’s development approach.

Furthermore, Honda is also implementing innovative manufacturing processes to support the 0 Series production. Six 6,000-ton megacasting machines will be installed at Honda’s Ohio plant, and the company will utilize its proprietary Constant DC Chopping welding technology. These advanced production methods aim to reduce vehicle weight and part count while enhancing safety performance.

Moreover, Honda has announced plans to launch a new energy service alongside the 0 Series vehicles, supporting the company’s broader carbon neutrality initiatives. This comprehensive approach demonstrates Honda’s aim to not just electrified vehicles but to the entire ecosystem of sustainable transportation.

CES 2025: A Milestone for Honda’s EV Future

Scheduled on January 7, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the CES 2025 reveal represents a pivotal moment for Honda as it works to establish itself in the increasingly competitive EV market.

With these prototypes, Honda aims to differentiate itself through innovative design, advanced technology, and efficient manufacturing processes, setting the stage for its electric future in 2026 and beyond.
