The Cadillac LYRIQ Faced Previous Issues With Its 2023 Model Year From Its Liftgate Panel To Headlamps

General Motors (GM) has issued a stop-sale order on certain units of the 2023 and 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ due to an issue with the integration of the electric vehicle’s (EV) software and hardware systems.
In regards to the stop-sale order by GM, the exact number of LYRIQ EVs affected by this problem is still being assessed, and dealers have not yet received a service bulletin with details on the issue and the required fix according to GM Authority.

In addition to this latest setback, Cadillac LYRIQ has already faced a series of quality-related challenges since its launch for the 2023 model year. Previous issues have included problems with the liftgate panel, the 33-inch curved instrument panel display, the interior storage tray, and the EV’s headlamps, all of which required fixes or replacements. As a result, this also implies that some LYRIQ owners may have already taken delivery of affected EVs, necessitating a recall or customer satisfaction program to rectify the issue.
Details on the specific nature of the software-hardware integration problem and the steps Cadillac will take to resolve it remain unclear. The automaker may choose to deploy an over-the-air (OTA) software update to address the problem, or owners may be required to bring their EVs to the dealer for a more extensive repair.
Notably, this is not the first time that GM has initiated a stop-sale order on its EVs. GM had also issued a stop-sale order on the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SUV last year to address software issues reported by buyers. Eventually, the Blazer EV was fixed and return to the market in March 2024. With this in mind, GM’s Cadillac LYRIQ is may get the same treatment and could streamline the fixing process as the company has went through this before.

The Cadillac LYRIQ, which is built on GM’s BEV3 platform and utilizes the company’s Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor technology, has been a crucial part of the company’s push into the EV market. With aims to elevate its position in the EV market, the stop-sale order and ongoing quality issues will undoubtedly put pressure on the company to quickly resolve the problem and restore confidence in the LYRIQ model.
