In the United Kingdom (UK) charging infrastructure sector, Swedish charging specialist CTEK has announced a partnership with APCOA. This partnership will aim to install advanced EV charging points in APCOA-managed car parks, marking a step towards supporting the UK’s growing EV market.
In detail, CTEK will be deploying its state-of-the-art Chargestorm Connected 3 (CC3) charging stations throughout APCOA’s network of car parks. These charging points are capable of delivering up to 22kW of power and are designed to provide efficient charging solutions for EV owners while their EVs are parked.
The CC3 chargers also arrive with several advanced features including readiness for bidirectional charging in compliance with the ISO 15118 standard. This EV technology potentially allows for future load-balancing capabilities, where energy could be fed back into the grid from suitable EVs. In addition, the chargers are equipped with Plug&Charge functionality, guaranteeing secure and seamless transactions between EVs and charging points.
Furthermore, the initial phase of the partnership will see the installations in car parks managed by Hillingdon Council in West London and 37 railway station car parks operated by APCOA for Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). Notably, This expansion builds upon APCOA’s existing network of over 1,000 EV charge points across the UK, with plans to add more than 300 additional installations in 2024.
As of April 2024, there were 59,670 public EV charging points installed in the UK according to the GOV.UK with data provided by Zapmap. With the implementation of these EV charging points from this partnership, this statistic will see a major increase.
Kim Challis, APCOA’s Regional Managing Director for the UK & Ireland, expressed the benefits of the partnership stating, “This collaboration with CTEK allows us to offer our clients the latest in EV charging technology and functionality, paired with APCOA’s exceptional customer and operational management services.”
With this partnership arriving when the UK continues to push for greater EV adoption, the expansion of the availability of charging points in convenient locations including car parks will address one of the key challenges in EV adoption: the availability of reliable charging infrastructure. As the rollout progresses, EV owners across the UK can expect to see an increasing number of these advanced charging stations in APCOA-managed car parks.
