The Plan Enables Small Businesses And Multifamily Properties To Add EV Charging Stations With Revenue Opportunities And Simplified Setup

ChargePoint has introduced a groundbreaking Essential Cloud Plan designed to remove financial barriers for small businesses and multifamily housing seeking to implement an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The new plan addresses a critical challenge in EV charging adoption by eliminating software subscription fees. Instead, the costs are covered directly through driver payments, creating a financially attractive option for property owners and managers.
“ChargePoint wants small businesses to offer EV charging as seamlessly and easily as possible,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. The Essential Cloud Plan specifically targets organizations that have previously found EV charging installations financially prohibitive.
According to ChargePoint, the plan offers several standout features aimed at making EV charging more accessible and profitable. First, it eliminates traditional software subscription fees, allowing station owners to manage their operations without incurring ongoing software costs.
Additionally, charging costs are seamlessly covered through driver payments, ensuring that drivers contribute directly to the cost of the service they’re using. For station owners, this model opens the door to potential monthly revenue, making EV charging a promising income stream.
To further ease the process, station activation is included in the package at no extra cost, simplifying the setup and reducing upfront barriers for station owners looking to enter the EV charging market.

The plan is currently available with ChargePoint’s CPF50 Level 2 charger, a competitively priced $699 solution that provides up to 12 kW of power, enabling most EVs to charge in 4-8 hours. Available in single and dual-port configurations, the charger offers flexibility for various locations.
Particularly beneficial for multifamily housing, hotels, workplaces, and other shared spaces, the Essential Cloud Planallows for simplified EV charging management. Property managers can offer charging services without complex billing processes, with multiple users able to pay individually for their energy usage.
Another standout feature is the plan’s power-sharing capability, which allows incremental station additions without overloading electrical services. This approach minimizes installation costs and supports future expansion of EV infrastructure.
Moreover, the innovative pricing model means that any revenue generated beyond the software fee is remitted directly to the station owner, potentially creating a new revenue stream for businesses and residential complexes.
As EV adoption continues to grow, ChargePoint’s Essential Cloud Plan represents a strategic solution to make charging infrastructure more accessible and financially viable for a wide range of organizations.
