A New Direction for Alpine

According to Alpine, the A390_β concept marks a stark contrast to Alpine’s current European offerings, such as the compact A290 hot hatch. As the second installment in Alpine’s “Dream Garage” trio of sports EVs, this new concept bridges the gap between everyday practicality and high-performance driving.

“A390_β previews the future Alpine sport fastback, which we have designed like an A110 with 5 seats,” stated Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine. “The duality between the racing spirit and the refinement of this show car embodies the performance and driving experience that we will deliver from 2025 onwards in our production vehicle, produced in France at the historic Dieppe Manufacture.”

Design: Where Form Meets Function

The design of the A390_β concept strikes a balance between aesthetics and aerodynamics, embodying both form and function. Its exterior showcases a sleek, fluid silhouette inspired by the natural shape of a water droplet, designed to optimize airflow and improve performance.

The “Cosmic Dust” lighting signature, featuring illuminated triangles, adds a futuristic element to its appearance. Aerodynamic features include a “flying bridge” for enhanced airflow, a micro-perforated grille, and an extendable rear light strip aimed at reducing drag.

The concept also features a 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels, inspired by snowflake crystals, that offer a balance of strength and lightness. According to Alpine, the exterior design of the A390_β is about 85% reflective of what the final production model will look like.

Interior: Racing Meets Luxury

On the interior, Alpine blends racing-inspired elements with luxury, though details remain limited. The cabin design is reportedly also about 85% similar to the production version. The driver-focused cockpit includes a rectangular steering wheel and a specially designed seat, both drawing inspiration from mountain landscapes. The interior also features carbon-fiber flooring to reduce weight, while a panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of space and light within the EV.

Performance Expectations

Performance details for the A390_β are not yet fully disclosed, but Alpine has confirmed a three-motor setup—two motors at the rear and one at the front, supported by dynamic torque control. Industry speculation suggests the production model could deliver nearly 600 horsepower and a driving range of around 480 km (298 miles). If achieved, these performance figures would make the A390_β a formidable competitor in the high-performance EV market.

The production version of the A390_β will be built on Renault’s AmpR Medium platform, which currently underpins the Megane and Scenic models. However, Alpine is expected to significantly enhance this platform with larger wheels, increased power output, and improved braking systems to elevate the A390_β above its mainstream counterparts.

A Nod to Alpine’s Heritage

The A390_β’s design draws inspiration from Alpine’s racing heritage and the natural beauty of the Alps. The concept’s “Bleu Specular” paint showcases a dynamic, multi-faceted blue that enhances the car’s sharp lines and pays homage to Alpine’s iconic color palette.

As Alpine transitions into the electric era, the A390_β concept represents a crucial step in the brand’s evolution. It promises to deliver a unique blend of everyday usability and exhilarating performance, all while embracing sustainable mobility.

With the A390_β previewing the future of Alpine sport fastback and cement the company’s position in the premium EV market., the automotive world eagerly awaits more details as the A390_β stands as a bold statement of Alpine’s goal to high-performance, sustainable motoring.
