Ampere has celebrated its first anniversary by showcasing remarkable progress in the European electric vehicle (EV) market, positioning itself as a formidable competitor against global automotive challengers.

Celebrating a Year of Progress

After one year, the new EV-focused entity of the Renault Group has made significant strides in manufacturing efficiency, technological innovation, and strategic partnerships. Most notably, the company has dramatically reduced production times, with the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric now being manufactured in under 10 hours at its ElectriCity hub in Northern France.

Ampere has quickly established itself as a technology platform for major brands. A key highlight is the collaboration with Nissan, which has commissioned Ampere to develop its next A-segment EV. The company is also working on EV projects for Alpine and Mitsubishi, including a C-SUV EV slated for 2025.

Advancements in Batteries and SDV

The company is pushing boundaries in battery technology, with plans to introduce Lithium, Iron, Phosphate (LFP) technology in 2026 and completely cobalt-free batteries by 2028. These innovations are part of an aggressive cost-reduction strategy aimed at cutting C-segment EV costs by 40% by 2028.

In 2026, Ampere plans to launch Europe’s first Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) with the FlexEVan, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining intellectual property while reducing costs. Strategic partnerships with tech giants like Google and Qualcomm underscore the company’s technological ambitions.

Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group and Ampere, confidently stated, “We’ve designed Ampere to deliver unique technology and customer experience, to catch up with the best in record time. The major advancements made by Ampere in just one year prove that it is definitely the most substantiated response of Europe’s auto industry to new competitors coming from the East and the West.”

Anticipating Future Growth

The company is optimistic about the EV market, anticipating around 25% annual growth in the next five years. With upcoming models like the Twingo (expected to be priced under €20,000) and continued focus on innovation, Ampere is positioning itself as a key player in the EV revolution.

Several key milestones are set to shape the future of the company’s EV initiatives. In 2026, the company plans to introduce LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology, along with the debut of its first European software-defined vehicle (SDV), representing a major step toward enhanced performance and sustainability.

Reducing Reliance on Critical Minerals

By 2028, the company aims to roll out cobalt-free batteries, significantly reducing reliance on critical minerals and lowering costs. This shift is expected to bring a 40% cost reduction in C-segment EVs, making EVs more accessible to a broader market.

Supporting a Diversified EV Lineup

Additionally, ongoing projects are in development for brands including Alpine, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. These collaborations will support a diversified and innovative EV lineup across multiple markets, further solidifying the company’s position in the global EV industry.

As the automotive landscape sees more automakers achieve significant milestones regarding EVs, Ampere appears determined to contribute to intelligent, efficient, and affordable EVs.
