ZEEKR Sets New Benchmark With 10.5-Minute Fast Charging For Its EVs

ZEEKR has announced a major breakthrough in electric vehicle (EV) battery technology as it claims its new lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries can recharge an EV from 10% to 80% state-of-charge in just 10.5 minutes.

In detail, ZEEKR’s announcement of what it calls a “new charging speed record” in the industry was made during the company’s Tech Day event in China. The fast-charging capability will debut in the ZEEKR 007 sedan, which is set to start deliveries next week.

Moreover, ZEEKR’s new batteries are designed to support 5.5C ultra-fast charging and have reportedly outperformed the company’s nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries. The company also claims improved charging performance under extreme conditions, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F).

To support this new technology, ZEEKR has already implemented over 500 ultra-fast charging stations throughout China, with plans to expand to 1,000 stations by the end of this year. The company is targeting over 10,000 ultra-fast charging piles by 2026.

While ZEEKR’s claim of setting a new record is notable, it is worth mentioning that its competitor GAC-Aion reported a similar recharge rate of 10% to 80% in 8 minutes using its 6C fast charger back in August 2021.

As ZEEKR progresses its global expansion across different markets with its latest in Mexico offering the ZEEKR 001 priced at $54,850 and the ZEEKR X priced at $44,35. This breakthrough in its EV battery technology will certainly make it stand out from other EV offerings offered in those markets.
