Chinese electric vehicle (EV) automaker XPeng has officially revealed its MONA M03. This new model is part of XPeng’s AI-centric MONA lineup (Made of New AI) that arrives with a combination of advanced technology and exceptional aerodynamics.

XPeng’s MONA M03 delivers a record-breaking drag coefficient of 0.194, making it the world’s most aerodynamic mass-produced all-electric sedan model. This feature exceeds even the likes of the Lucid Air with a drag coefficient of 0.197 and the Tesla Model S with a drag coefficient of 0.208.

Furthermore, XPeng claims this streamlined design contributes to an increased range, estimated between 320 to 385 miles based on China’s CLTC cycle. In terms of its motor, buyers can select between two single-motor trims: a 140 kW or a more powerful 160 kW option. With a top speed of 96 mph, XPeng’s MONA M03 will also feature the company’s XNGP ADAS system.

One of the M03’s standout features is its practical hatchback design, addressing a common criticism of the Tesla Model 3’s traditional trunk. With nearly 22 cubic feet of cargo space, the M03 provides improved versatility for daily carrying use.

In addition, XPeng’s MONA M03 is built on a mobility ecosystem supported by ride-hailing specialist Didi Global, acquired by XPeng in 2023. This partnership is also projected to bolster sales, with Didi Global entitled to equity incentives based on annual sales for the next two years according to Reuters.

Notably, XPeng aims to price the MONA M03 below 200,000 yuan (around $27,500), positioning it as a highly competitive option in the growing affordable EV market. This pricing strategy could make the M03 an attractive alternative to more expensive EV sedans. Interestingly, XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng stated during the debut event that the M03 is “meant to give respect to Tesla’s Model 3,” underlining the company’s goal to compete directly with Tesla.

While full performance specifications and battery details are yet to be unveiled, the EV industry will watch closely on this new entry. With the MONA M03’s combination of advanced aerodynamics, practical design, and competitive pricing, it could potentially disrupt the affordable EV market.

As of now, the MONA M03 is aimed to release in the Chinese EV market, with pre-orders already open. With its official launch approaching, potential buyers will eagerly wait for more details. Xpeng’s MONA M03 is set to launch in August.
