Tesla Expands Model 3 Lineup With New Long Range RWD Trim

Tesla has added a new addition to its Model 3 electric vehicle (EV) lineup, introducing a new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) trim in the United States (U.S.) market.

This new Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD delivers an attractive mixture of extended range and affordability as it has an EPA-estimated range of 363 miles on a single charge, which is around 100 miles more than the standard RWD model. Moreover, it has an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph.

As for its price, it starts at $42,490 before incentives. Notably, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD’s affordability is greatly sweetened by its eligibility for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit, bringing the effective price down to $34,990. Tesla goes a step further in its marketing, factoring in estimated gas savings over five years to advertise a price “starting at $29,990.”

As a result, this strategic pricing places the new Model 3 trim in a highly competitive position by offering one of the best range-to-price ratios in the current EV market. Interestingly, Tesla’s strategy includes having its EVs built using Panasonic cells, which presents its eligibility for the full tax credit under current regulations. In addition to the U.S. launch, Tesla has also introduced this new trim in Puerto Rico.

As Tesla has been making headlines recently with the reported delay of its anticipated Robotaxi from August 2024 to October 2024, the launch of the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD will certainly enhance its position in the EV market. The company appears ready to begin deliveries of the new trim promptly, with delivery estimates ranging between July and August 2024.
