Range Rover has revealed new information by showcasing its first prototype electric vehicle (EV) for its first-ever electric SUV called the Range Rover Electric. The company, famous for its iconic design, also revealed its prototype EV being tested in an array of different climates to demonstrate its resilience.

Currently, the prototype EV are being tested in certain climates in the most challenging environments. These environments include the frozen lakes of Sweden and the searing deserts of the Middle East. The tests that Range Rover’s prototype EVs go through are designed to validate their capabilities in extreme temperatures that range from -40°C to +50°C while being in stable performance.

The Range Rover Electric shown in a sleek and modern exterior design in an all-black colorway possesses an in-house all-electric propulsion system also went through rigorous testing that aims at the battery and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) that was developed by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

A standout feature of the Range Rover Electric is its advanced traction control system, which maintains exceptional performance while being on low-grip or icy surfaces. This system is done through the distribution of wheel slip management tasks to each individual electric drive control unit. Moreover, the company also cut down the torque reaction time for better traction and stability in different environments. The torque reaction time is now as little as 1 millisecond according to Range Rover

Thomas Mueller, Executive Director of Product Engineering at JLR, expressed the capabilities and design of the Range Rover Electric prototype stating, “Range Rover with electric power means customary Range Rover luxury, refinement, and capability, plus near-silent fully electric propulsion. To ensure we leave no stone unturned, we are well underway with our physical testing and development program, designed to push the Range Rover Electric to the extremes.”

As we wait for the global debut of the Range Rover Electric set for later this year, the company is also expected to launch its Range Rover Sport EV in 2025 with five more EV models will launch by 2026. With these upcoming EV launches from the company, the EV market will be set to becomes bigger upon their arrival. Click here to view the showcase video of the Range Rover Electric prototype.
