Polestar reported its strongest first-quarter retail performance to date, delivering 13,126 vehicles globally in Q1 2026. The result marked a 7% year-over-year increase and reflected continued momentum following a record 2025, even as the company navigated more challenging global market conditions.

Polestar posts record Q1 sales amid global market resilience

The Swedish EV maker confirmed that Q1 retail sales rose from 12,263 units in the same period last year to 13,126 vehicles in 2026, setting a new first-quarter record. The growth was supported by strong performance across several key markets, including Australia, Germany, Sweden, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

CEO Michael Lohscheller noted that the company’s results demonstrated resilience despite increasing geopolitical and macroeconomic pressures. The continued sales growth followed a record-breaking 2025, suggesting Polestar has maintained steady demand for its expanding EV lineup.

While the year-over-year increase was modest, it came during a period of heightened competition and softer EV demand in some regions, highlighting the brand’s ability to sustain momentum across multiple global markets.

Retail network expansion supports long-term growth strategy

Alongside its sales growth, Polestar continued to aggressively expand its retail footprint. The company reported operating 230 retail sales locations at the end of Q1 2026, up 50% from 154 locations a year earlier.

This expansion is a key pillar of Polestar’s strategy to increase brand visibility and improve customer access across major markets. The company plans to grow its network further to approximately 250 retail points by the end of 2026, representing about 20% growth compared to the end of 2025.

By strengthening its physical retail presence while maintaining a direct-to-consumer approach, Polestar aims to support future sales growth as it introduces new models and enters additional markets.

The combination of steady sales gains and rapid network expansion underscores Polestar’s focus on building a scalable global EV business, positioning itself to compete more effectively as the electric vehicle market continues to evolve.
