Polestar is kicking its global electric vehicle (EV) growth plans into high gear for 2025, with confirmed expansion into seven new markets including France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Thailand, and Brazil by the end of 2025.

Polestar’s Expansion Plans

With Polestar bringing its total market reach to over 30 countries worldwide, the company is aiming for new heights in brand expansion. France, Europe’s second-largest EV market behind Germany, represents a particularly major opportunity. Meanwhile, the push into Central Europe, Thailand, and Brazil will plant Polestar’s presence in important developing EV hubs.

In regards to Polestar’s accelerated commercial rollout, the company has appointed veteran auto industry leaders to spearhead efforts in key regions: Anders Gustafsson takes over as Head of North America after over a decade at Volvo Cars, Matt Galvin, formerly of NIO and Mercedes-Benz, becomes UK Managing Director, and Marius Hayler, an ex-Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo executive, will lead Norway and the Nordic region.

Polestar’s Retail Strategy

In addition, Polestar is also expanding its retail presence across Europe through a revised “non-genuine agency” model. This allows its buyers to purchase EVs directly from the company as well as through a network of retail “Spaces” and service locations according to Polestar.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, expressed enthusiasm for Polestar’s retail strategy stating, “Expanding our retail operations with new and existing partners will enable us to reach more customers. Through these partnerships and expansion, we will capitalise on our strong brand and growing model line-up.”

Notably, Polestar’s retail strategies have already taken effect in Sweden and Norway, with other major European markets set to follow suit in the second half of 2024. There are also further plans ongoing to add at least 10 new retail touchpoints in Sweden alone.

Having recently revealed the Polestar 4, the company will add the Polestar 5 four-door GT to its portfolio in 2025 and a Polestar 6 is also on deck for 2026. While Polestar’s aggressive market expansion and retail ramp-up are in its plans, the intent to emerge as a major force is in progress in the EV market.
