Polestar 4 Now Available in the US, Built in South Korea

Polestar has officially opened sales for its 2026 Polestar 4 crossover SUV to US customers. A significant change for this model year is its manufacturing location: the 2026 Polestar 4 EVs destined for North America will now be assembled in Busan, South Korea, a shift from earlier plans for Chinese production. This strategic move comes amidst evolving tariff threats from the Trump Administration and recent changes in Polestar’s leadership.

South Korean Production for North America

The Polestar 4, the fourth model from the Geely-owned, Swedish-designed automaker, was initially unveiled in 2023, with production for European and Australian deliveries beginning in China later that year. However, due to various challenges, including new US tariff concerns, Polestar has adjusted its strategy.

As of today, US customers can configure and order the 2026 Polestar 4. The vehicles will be built in Busan, South Korea, by Renault, serving both the North American and local Korean markets. Rick Bryant, head of Polestar North America, expressed enthusiasm for this development, highlighting how the Polestar 4 “confidently enters the premium performance class within the D-SUV segment.” He added that with the US-assembled Polestar 3, the company now offers two dynamic SUV options for North American customers. Production for North American customers is expected to begin this summer in South Korea, with initial customer deliveries projected for the fall.

Pricing, Variants, and Performance

The 2026 Polestar 4 is available in five variants across two trims for North American customers, a slight reduction from the originally announced eight variants for the 2025 model year. The starting price for the base model is now $57,800, which includes the $1,600 destination fee.

All Polestar 4 trims come standard with a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack. They support up to 200 kW DC fast charging and 11 kW AC charging.

Standard Features and Optional Packs

Key standard equipment across all 2026 Polestar 4 trims includes an Android Automotive OS infotainment system, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera, and a heat pump. The Pilot Pack, previously optional, is now standard across the lineup, with its price incorporated into the MSRP.

Optional packages enhance the vehicle’s features:

• Plus Pack ($5,500): Available on both single and dual-motor versions, it adds a head-up display, automatically dimming exterior mirrors, 12-way adjustable seats, electrically reclinable rear seats, three-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and rear seats, and a Harman Kardon Premium sound system.
• Performance Pack ($4,500): Exclusive to the Dual Motor version, this pack includes 22-inch wheels, a Polestar Engineered chassis tune, Brembo four-piston brake calipers in Swedish gold with Polestar performance brake discs, performance-oriented summer tires, and Swedish gold seat belts and valve stem caps.

Importance for the US Market

The Polestar 4 is positioned as a crucial model for the automaker’s US lineup, especially since the entry-level Polestar 2 sedan is no longer available for order in North America. This effectively makes the Polestar 4 the most affordable new Polestar model in the region, placing significant expectations on its market performance. Customers who ordered the original 2025 Polestar 4 will receive a price-protected 2026 model.
