Pirelli Elect Tires Are Chosen Seven Out Of Ten By Automakers For Their BEV And PHEV Tires

Pirelli has announced a new milestone for its Elect tire technology, specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
Since its launch in 2019, Pirelli Elect has achieved more than 500 homologations. The success of Pirelli Elect is evident in its widespread adoption, with seven out of ten premium and prestige automakers choosing these EV tires for their battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and PHEVs.
Piero Misani, Chief Technical Officer of Pirelli, expressed the importance of specialized tires for EVs stating, “Electric cars are very different from traditional internal combustion vehicles, so require specific tyres. The number of homologations obtained from major manufacturers confirms the validity of the path we have chosen to follow.”
The Elect technology offers several key advantages for EV owners. Notably, these EV tires can provide up to an additional 50 km (31 miles) of range compared to traditional tires due to their low rolling resistance. This increased efficiency can lead to annual savings of up to 150 euros ($167) on charging costs.
In addition to the improved range, Pirelli Elect tires arrive with enhanced grip to manage the high torque characteristic of electric motors. The tires also feature reinforced structures to cope with the increased weight of EVs. These design elements contribute to a reduction in tire wear by up to 20%, offering long-term cost savings for buyers.
Acoustic comfort is another standout feature of the Elect technology. The tires provide up to 20% less noise inside the EV, complementing the quiet operation of electric powertrains and enhancing the overall driving experience.
Moreover, Pirelli has integrated the Elect technology across its main product families, including the P Zero, Scorpion, and Cinturato ranges. This comprehensive approach ensures that BEVs and PHEVs can benefit from high performance, comfort, and efficiency across various driving conditions and seasons.

Recently, Pirelli and BMW collaborated on a new 20-inch P Zero Winter 2 tires that are designed for the BMW 7 Series including the i7 EV model. As a result, it shows the readiness of Pirelli to equip all sorts of EV models in the market.
As Pirelli reaches success with its Elect technology with over 500 homologations and counting, the company is well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of EV automakers and owners alike, contributing to the broader goals of increased efficiency and sustainability in electric mobility.
