Ford’s F-150 Lightning SuperTruck Will Appear In The 102nd Running Of The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb On June 23

With Ford previously teasing its F-150 Lightning-based “SuperTruck,” the company has officially revealed its wildest electric vehicle (EV) for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. From its fierce and aerodynamic bodywork to its triple-motor electric powertrain, this is no ordinary electric pickup.

While still maintaining the unmistakable F-150 silhouette, the Supertruck is designed in conjunction with Ford Performance and STARD Advanced Research and Development, where it seeks to conquer the 12.4-mile, 156-turn Pikes Peak course with brute electric force and physics-defying grip.

Key modifications include a series of enhancements to its performance and aerodynamics. At the heart of these upgrades are three bespoke STARD UHP 6-Phase electric motors paired with an Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC battery pack, generating an output of over 1,400 horsepower.

A radical custom aero package has also been added, featuring a triple-element front splitter, dive planes, diffusers, and a massive rear wing. These enhancements provide the Supertruck with over 6,000 lbs of downforce at speeds of 150 mph, ensuring exceptional stability and handling during high-speed maneuvers.

Adding to its performance specs are also the magnesium forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli slick tires. This allows the Supertruck’s stopping power and handling precision to be remarkably improved by carbon ceramic brakes and a fully custom inboard suspension system.
Furthermore, to optimize its power-to-weight ratio, extensive use of lightweight materials including carbon fiber has been employed throughout the Supertruck’s construction. As a result, these modifications collectively transform Ford’s Supertruck into a formidable high-performance challenger to take on the most demanding racing conditions.

Notably, Romain Dumas, a seasoned veteran of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and the current overall record holder, will be at the helm of the SuperTruck. This marks his ninth appearance at the event and his second time driving for Ford Performance. Dumas also piloted Ford’s entry last year, the “SuperVan” electric drift van, to new records in qualifying and the exhibition class.

Ford has a long history competing at Pikes Peak dating back to the Model T in 1916 and now the SuperTruck represents the its latest electric performance frontier as it aims to top its 2023 record time of 8 minutes, 47.682 seconds set by the SuperVan.

Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance, expressed enthusiasm for the Supertruck’s entry into the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb stating, “To make the best vehicles for our customers, our research takes us racing in the harshest and most challenging conditions – the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is the latest example of that.”
With over 1,400 horsepower driving all four wheels, armored aero cladding and an expert driver behind the wheel, Ford’s F-150 “SuperTruck” is an electric frontrunner built to take over the PPHIC. The upcoming 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will be scheduled on June 23.
