New regulatory filings in China have revealed key specifications for the upcoming 2027 Cadillac XT5 plug-in hybrid, including an impressive electric-only driving range that could make it one of the most capable PHEVs in its segment.

The filings indicate that Cadillac’s first electrified XT5 variant will offer up to 155 kilometers (96.3 miles) of all-electric range, giving the popular midsize crossover significantly more battery-powered driving capability than many competing plug-in hybrids.

New filings reveal impressive electric range figures

The newly disclosed information emerged through Chinese homologation documents ahead of the model’s official launch. According to the filings, the 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV will be equipped with a 35.5 kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to 155 kilometers of electric range under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The filings also suggest Cadillac plans to offer a second battery option with a larger capacity, though detailed specifications have not yet been released. Both battery configurations are expected to support external power discharge functions, allowing owners to use the vehicle as a mobile energy source, according to GM Authority.

Power will come from a plug-in hybrid system combining a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with dual electric motors. The setup includes a 160-kW motor at the front axle and a 110-kW motor at the rear, creating an electrified all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of 270 kW, or approximately 362 horsepower.

The XT5 PHEV will also feature fast-charging capability, helping reduce charging times between trips.

Cadillac expands electrification strategy for popular crossover

In addition to its electric driving capability, the filings indicate the XT5 PHEV achieved certified fuel consumption of 6.05 liters per 100 kilometers, equivalent to roughly 38.9 miles per gallon under Chinese testing standards.

The model represents an important step in Cadillac’s broader electrification strategy. While the brand has focused heavily on fully electric vehicles such as the Lyriq, Optiq, and Escalade IQ, the XT5 PHEV introduces a bridge technology that could appeal to buyers seeking substantial electric driving range without relying entirely on public charging infrastructure.

The second-generation XT5 is built and manufactured in China through the SAIC-GM joint venture and remains one of Cadillac’s most important crossover models globally. The plug-in hybrid variant is expected to receive its official debut later this year.

Reports have also suggested the redesigned XT5 could eventually reach North America, potentially making the high-range plug-in hybrid available beyond the Chinese market. If that happens, the XT5 PHEV could become a compelling alternative for buyers not yet ready to transition to a fully electric SUV.
