Strong European order intake for Mercedes-Benz’s new 800-volt electric CLA sedan and electric GLC SUV has stretched factory wait times to roughly six months, pushing new custom-built deliveries into April 2027.

Sales board chief Mathias Geisen disclosed the backlog during Mercedes-Benz’s 140th-anniversary celebration, where the automaker also debuted the all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT SUV.

Electric CLA registrations outpace its combustion predecessor across Europe

Although Stuttgart does not break out model-by-model EV deliveries, Dataforce registration figures compiled for Handelsblatt show more than 71,000 electric CLAs registered across Europe since its September 2025 rollout—an average pace of roughly 5,400 cars per month.

That monthly run rate is more than 50 percent higher than the 3,500 monthly European registrations averaged by the previous combustion-only CLA between 2021 and 2024, according to electrive.com.

Across the wider Mercedes-Benz Group, third-quarter battery-electric deliveries reached 78,100 vehicles between July and September, climbing 24 percent quarter over quarter and 52 percent year over year. Fully electric cars accounted for 16.8 percent of passenger-car volume—about one in every six cars handed over—up from 9.6 percent in the second quarter of 2025.

Three-shift battery output in Kamenz as GLC and CLA hit Germany’s top 10

Geisen noted that Mercedes-Benz Cars set an all-time quarterly BEV record in the third quarter as electric GLC deliveries more than tripled from the prior three-month period, leaving European allocations for the electric GLC, CLA, GLB and GLA completely spoken for through year-end.

To keep pace with assembly in Rastatt and Bremen—after early component bottlenecks briefly slowed the Bremen GLC ramp-up—Mercedes battery subsidiary Accumotive has run its Kamenz plant in Saxony on round-the-clock three-shift schedules six days a week since June.

Both the electric CLA and electric GLC topped 2,000 German registrations apiece in September to place inside the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt’s national EV top 10, while Europe-wide electric GLC registrations approached 7,400 for the month—beating the combustion GLC’s 2025 monthly peak of 6,500. With electric C-Class, GLA and GLB models now reaching European buyers, Handelsblatt reports that an electric E-Class will follow at the Munich IAA in September 2027 ahead of an electric A-Class in 2028.
