With A $185 Adapter And Software Update, Mercedes Drivers Can Now Charge At Tesla’s Stations, With NACS Ports Coming In 2025
Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (EV) owners gained access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network in the United States (U.S.) starting today. This milestone marks Mercedes-Benz as the first German automaker to join Tesla’s growing network of partner automakers.
How to Access Superchargers
The integration allows Mercedes-Benz EV drivers to access Tesla’s Supercharger stations through a specialized NACS (North American Charging Standard) adapter, available at Mercedes dealerships for $185. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz EV owners can initiate charging sessions directly through the Mercedes me app, eliminating the need to download Tesla’s application separately.
To enable this functionality, Mercedes-Benz owners must complete two essential steps. First, they need to purchase the NACS adapter, and second, they must visit a dealership for a mandatory software update that cannot be performed remotely. This update activates both the Supercharger compatibility and Mercedes-Benz’ “Plug & Charge” feature, which enables automatic authentication and payment processing when connecting to a Supercharger station.
Navigation & Real-Time Updates
Moreover, the integration extends beyond just charging capabilities. Mercedes-Benz has incorporated Tesla Supercharger locations into their vehicles’ native navigation systems, allowing drivers to seamlessly plan routes that include these charging stops. The Mercedes me app now displays real-time information about Supercharger availability and pricing, creating a unified charging experience within the Mercedes-Benz ecosystem.
U.S. Now, Canada Coming Soon
While this launch represents a big step forward, there are some geographical limitations to note. The initial rollout is restricted to the U.S., with Canadian access planned for later this year. Mercedes-Benz has also announced plans to transition to native NACS ports in their North American EVs beginning in late 2025, eventually eliminating the need for adapters.
