The Partnership Aims To Install EV Chargers Starting With The Interstate 5 Corridor By Providing Rapid 400 kW DC Fast Chargers At Starbucks Locations

In the realm of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the United States (U.S.), Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks have announced plans to install high-speed EV chargers at over 100 Starbucks locations.
In detail, the initial phase of this collaborative project will focus on the Interstate 5 corridor, a critical 1,400-mile route stretching from Canada to Mexico along the West Coast. Starbucks locations along this highway will be supplied with Mercedes-Benz’s 400 kW DC fast chargers, capable of providing rapid charging for all EV brands according to Mercedes-Benz.
Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, expressed the value of this collaboration stating, “”Together, we seek to infuse delight into this facet of EV ownership through intentional experiences that make drivers genuinely excited to plug in. We envision a future where charging your vehicle is as easy as enjoying your favorite Starbucks.”
Michael Kobori, Starbucks chief sustainability officer, echoed this sentiment stating, “Partnering with Mercedes is the next step in expanding our EV charging network so our customers can refuel sustainably while they enjoy Starbucks.”
Both companies possess sustainability objectives that align with EVs being a contributing factor. For Mercedes-Benz, it plans to reach carbon neutrality by 2039 and develop a public charging network with 100% clean energy. As for Starbucks, it aims to cut its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and the company sees this collaboration as an extension of its ongoing efforts to implement renewable energy projects.
Notably, Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging has rapidly expanded its network since launching its first North American charging site in November 2023. The company has already opened a dozen locations across several southern states and plans to extend its reach to nearly half of U.S. states within the next 12 to 18 months.
Furthermore, this collaboration addresses a crucial need in the EV market by providing convenient charging locations with amenities. Many existing charging stations lack basic facilities, often situated in remote areas without access to food or restrooms. By integrating charging stations into Starbucks locations, EV owners can enjoy a comfortable environment while their EV recharge.
With plans to expand to additional key markets including urban areas and other critical travel corridors, this collaboration promises to enhance the EV charging infrastructure across North America.
