Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce has announced a recall of 2,888 Lucid Air electric sedans after identifying an exterior-lighting circuit issue that can overheat and create a fire or crash hazard.
Covering 2023 through 2026 model-year cars, the campaign is being resolved through a free over-the-air software patch without requiring dealership visits.
In an Arabic notice released Monday, October 26, Saudi regulators warned that the electrical defect can cause the lighting circuit to overheat and knock out front headlamps or brake lights. By volume, the 2,888-car notice represents Lucid’s biggest recall to date in Saudi Arabia.
Because the fix is delivered wirelessly via software rather than through a physical parts swap at a service center, affected cars can be updated remotely, according to Eletric Vehicles.
The Saudi action mirrors an August U.S. recall of 27,185 Air sedans—Lucid’s largest American campaign among 18 U.S. recalls to date—in which federal regulators advised drivers to park outdoors away from buildings until the software patch installed. While the Saudi ministry’s web notice omitted parking guidance, Khaleej Times reported that local authorities issued the same outdoor-parking precaution.

Since 2023, Saudi authorities have posted four recall notices for the Lucid Air—each trailing an earlier U.S. NHTSA filing—split evenly between wireless software remedies and workshop hardware repairs. Alongside Monday’s lighting update and a November 2023 software patch for rear seat heaters, Lucid conducted two physical campaigns on rear-wheel-drive Air Pure sedans: a December 2024 rear-motor wiring harness repair on 358 cars and a June 2026 driveshaft-bolt replacement across 1,169 vehicles.
Because the entry-level Air Pure relies on a single rear motor rather than the dual-motor layout of the Touring and Grand Touring, a rear-axle harness or half-shaft failure cuts drive power completely.
Saudi Arabia remains Lucid’s primary market outside North America, backed by majority shareholder Public Investment Fund and an April 2022 government commitment to purchase up to 100,000 EVs over a decade. At King Abdullah Economic City, Lucid’s AMP-2 facility—which has assembled Air sedans from Arizona-supplied kits—is currently retooling for full manufacturing of the upcoming Cosmos midsize SUV next year.
