Lucid Recalls 3,627 Air Pure Sedans Over Rear-Drive Failure Risk

Lucid Motors has recalled 3,627 Air Pure electric sedans in the U.S. over a potential rear-drive half-shaft issue that could increase crash risk.

The recall affects 2024–2026 model-year vehicles built between September 2023 and July 2025, with Lucid offering free inspections and repairs as it moves to address the defect across newer production units.

The recall centers on the rear-wheel-drive Lucid Air Pure, where rear-drive half-shafts could detach while driving. According to Lucid Motors, the issue stems from irregularities in the bolt fastening process, including problems with adhesive application and curing, according to SpeedMe.ru.

These inconsistencies may have led to compromised fasteners, potential contamination, or even the reuse of bolts, factors that could increase the likelihood of component failure under load. The affected parts were supplied by GKN Automotive (half-shafts) and Bossard (bolts).

Lucid noted that while no widespread incidents have been confirmed, the defect poses a potential safety risk that warranted a proactive recall across impacted vehicles.

Free repairs and support offered as Lucid addresses safety risk

To resolve the issue, Lucid service centers will inspect the rear-drive assemblies and replace fasteners where necessary. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by May 22, 2026, with the company providing free towing, loaner vehicles, or travel reimbursement to minimize disruption.

Notably, the recall includes some newly produced 2026 model-year vehicles, highlighting the importance of early-stage quality control as Lucid continues scaling production.
