Hyundai Kicks Off Pre-Orders For The IONIQ 9 In Its Home Market

Hyundai has officially begun taking pre-orders for its IONIQ 9, celebrating a notable expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The flagship three-row SUV, which was first unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November, is now available for order in South Korea with a surprisingly competitive starting price of around $41,000 after incentives.

Competitive Pricing and Accessibility

The IONIQ 9 depicts a substantial advancement in EV technology, built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and powered by a robust 110.3 kWh battery. This sophisticated power system enables an outstanding driving range of up to 532 km (330 miles) in standard configurations, with the long-range rear-wheel-drive model pushing even further to 620 km (385 miles) under WLTP standards.

Moreover, the vehicle’s dimensions make it slightly larger than its corporate cousin, the Kia EV9, measuring 5,060 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 3,130 mm. These generous proportions translate into a spacious interior that can accommodate either six or seven passengers, depending on the configuration.

Trim Levels and Configurations

Hyundai has structured the IONIQ 9’s lineup to cater to different preferences and needs, offering both six and seven-seat configurations across three trim levels: Exclusive, Prestige, and Calligraphy. The seven-seat version ranges from 67.15 million won ($45,800) to 77.92 million won ($53,100), while the six-seat configuration starts at 69.03 million won ($47,000) and reaches 79.41 million won ($54,100) for the top-tier Calligraphy model.

In terms of performance, buyers can choose between several powertrain options. The rear-wheel-drive model features a single motor producing 160 kW and 350 Nm of torque. For those seeking more power, the all-wheel-drive variants offer two choices: a cruising model with 226 kW and 605 Nm of torque, and a performance version boasting 315 kW and 700 Nm of torque.

Cutting-Edge Charging and Technology

The IONIQ 9 showcases Hyundai’s aim to advanced technology with its “multi-ultra-fast charging system” operating at 400/800V. This system enables rapid charging from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes when connected to a 350 kW charger. The interior features a panoramic curved display combining dual 12.3-inch screens for driver information and infotainment, complementing the vehicle’s minimalist cabin design.

In addition, the vehicle offers practical features including 1,323 liters of cargo space with the third row folded, and 100W high-output USB-C ports available in all three rows, emphasizing its utility as a family-oriented electric SUV.

U.S. Market Launch

For the U.S. market, production is scheduled to begin later this quarter at Hyundai’s new EV plant in Bryan County, Georgia, with sales expected to commence in Q2. Notably, U.S. models will include an NACS port, allowing access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, and will be manufactured alongside the updated 2025 IONIQ 5.
