With Up To 473 Km Range, A Tech-Savvy Interior, And Eco-Friendly Materials, The Creta Electric Blends Performance And Sustainability For India’s EV Market
Hyundai Motor India Limited has made a bold move in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its first indigenous electric SUV, the Creta Electric, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Starting at an accessible price point of Rs 17.99 Lakh (around $20,000), this new addition to Hyundai’s lineup marks a significant milestone in India’s EV journey.
Building on the success of its gas counterpart, which contributed to over 30% of Hyundai’s record-breaking 605,433 vehicle sales in India during 2024, the Creta Electric aims to strengthen the company’s position as a leader in the SUV segment. The electric variant arrives with impressive specifications, offering two battery options to suit different driving needs: a 42 kWh pack delivering 390 km (242 miles) of range, and a longer-range 51.4 kWh version capable of traveling 473 km (294 miles) on a single charge.
The new electric SUV showcases Hyundai’s aim to advance technology and sustainability. The interior features eco-friendly materials, including seats crafted from recycled plastic bottles and corn extract for artificial leather upholstery. The vehicle’s tech-forward approach is evident in its dual 10.25-inch curvilinear screens, voice-enabled panoramic sunroof, and innovative features like in-car payment capability for charging at over 1,150 charging points across India.
Performance has not been compromised in the transition to electric power. The long-range version, equipped with the 51.4 kWh battery, generates 171 PS of power and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. Charging solutions are equally outstanding, with the ability to charge from 10% to 100% in four hours using the 11 kW smart connected wall box charger, or achieve an 80% charge in just 39 minutes with a 100 kW DC fast charger.
Moreover, the Creta Electric’s safety features are comprehensive with the vehicle incorporating about 75% Advanced High Strength Steel and offering Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS with 19 tech-enabled safety functions. Standard safety features across all variants include six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, and electronic stability control.
Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, emphasized the significance of this launch stating, “Creta Electric marks a defining moment in HMIL’s journey of electrification and reflects our commitment to the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision, as it is our first indigenous EV SUV in India.”
The Creta Electric is available in four trim levels – Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence – with the top-tier Excellence trim priced at Rs 23.50 lakh ($27,200). This strategic pricing positions the electric SUV competitively in the market, although at a premium compared to its gasoline counterpart, which starts at Rs 10.99 Lakh ($12,800).
Furthermore, this launch is part of Hyundai’s broader electrification strategy in India, with plans to introduce five new EVs by 2030. While the Creta Electric will not be available in the United States (U.S.) market, it represents Hyundai’s growing commitment to electric mobility in emerging markets and its ability to adapt global EV technology to meet local market needs and preferences.
