In a strategic move that further cements its position in the electric vehicle (EV) market, Huawei has unveiled its latest offering, the Stelato S9, developed in collaboration with Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC).

The Stelato S9, launched under the joint Huawei-BAIC brand Stelato, is positioned to compete with premium electric sedans and even traditional luxury EVs. Priced at 399,800 yuan (around $55,910) for the Max trim and 449,800 yuan (around $62,762) for the Ultra trim, the S9 offers high-end features at a considerably lower price point.

Measuring 5,160 mm in length, the Stelato S9 features a 100 kWh battery with 800-volt architecture, developed in partnership with CATL. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Max trim delivers a CLTC range of 816 km (507 miles), while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) Ultra trim delivers 721 km (448 miles) of range. The Ultra trim, equipped with dual motors, can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei’s intelligent vehicle solutions business unit, highlighted the S9’s class-leading cabin space and its world-record low drag coefficient of 0.193 Cd for a production luxury sedan. The EV also showcases Huawei’s latest Advanced Driving System (ADS) 3.0, promising enhanced autonomous driving capabilities.

Huawei’s Partnership Expansion

The launch of the Stelato S9 is part of Huawei’s broader strategy in the EV market. The company has established multiple joint ventures with Chinese automakers under its Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) initiative. These include partnerships with Seres Group, Chery, and JAC.

Notably, Huawei’s HIMA business has been gaining momentum, with over 40,000 units sold in each of the past two months. The addition of the Stelato S9 to its lineup, alongside the existing Aito models and the Luxeed S7, is projected to further boost these figures.

As Huawei continues to expand its presence, the Stelato S9 is set to establish the company as a serious contender in the luxury EV market. With deliveries set to start on August 7, all eyes will be on how this tech-infused luxury EV performs in the competitive Chinese automotive landscape.
