The launch places the ES9 directly into competition with other high-end Chinese smart EVs, including the recently updated Aito M9 backed by Huawei.

Rivian hinted that it may hold one final R2 “Block Party” event before the electric SUV officially launches, following strong turnout at a recent Nashville showcase that drew large crowds and heavy engagement online. In a post on X, Rivian asked fans where the company should bring the next event.
The Nashville event marked one of the latest stops in Rivian’s nationwide R2 promotional tour ahead of the vehicle’s first deliveries.
Rivian’s post featured several photos from the Nashville event, including packed showroom crowds, hands-on R2 demonstrations, material displays, and live presentations discussing the vehicle’s features and performance.
The company’s “Block Party” events have become a major part of Rivian’s early marketing strategy for the R2, allowing potential customers to interact with the vehicle in person months before deliveries begin.
Unlike traditional auto show displays, the events are designed to feel more community-focused and experiential. Visitors can sit inside multiple R2 configurations, examine paint and interior materials, speak with Rivian staff, and attend presentations covering the SUV’s design and specifications.
The R2 is widely viewed as Rivian’s most important upcoming product because it targets a significantly broader market than the company’s larger and more expensive R1T and R1S vehicles.
Positioned as a midsize electric SUV competing more directly with vehicles like the Tesla Model Y, the R2 is expected to start around $45,000 for lower-priced variants while higher-end dual-motor configurations could approach $59,000.
Rivian previously said performance-focused versions of the R2 could produce up to 656 horsepower and accelerate from 0-60 mph in roughly 3.6 seconds while delivering up to 330 miles of estimated range.
The company plans to begin initial production at its Normal, Illinois facility before eventually expanding manufacturing to its upcoming Georgia plant.
