BYD’s New Flagship SUV Draws 150,000 Orders Before Deliveries Begin

BYD has officially launched the Da Tang EV, a full-size electric SUV that the company says offers the longest driving range of any production SUV in the world.

Starting at 239,900 yuan ($35,500) and offering up to 950 kilometers (590 miles) of range, the new flagship model enters one of China’s most competitive EV segments with more than 150,000 pre-orders already secured ahead of deliveries.

BYD targets premium SUV buyers with record range and fast charging

The Da Tang EV arrives as the first D-segment flagship SUV in BYD’s Dynasty lineup and is available in four configurations. Pricing ranges from 239,900 yuan for the entry-level rear-wheel-drive model to 309,900 yuan for the top-tier variant.

The standout specification is the vehicle’s range. Depending on configuration, the SUV offers between 800 and 950 kilometers of driving range, enabled by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology. The entry-level model uses a 105.7-kWh battery pack, while higher-end versions receive a larger 130.1-kWh battery, according to CNEV Post.

BYD has also equipped the Da Tang EV with a 1,000-volt electrical architecture and its latest flash-charging technology. According to the company, the system can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes when connected to compatible infrastructure.

Performance is equally impressive. Rear-wheel-drive variants produce either 402 or 496 horsepower, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model generates a combined 585 kW, or approximately 784 horsepower. The flagship all-wheel-drive version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

Advanced technology and luxury features strengthen BYD’s lineup

Measuring more than 5.2 meters long, the Da Tang EV sits firmly in the full-size SUV category. The vehicle features BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system, rear-wheel steering, and a crab-walk mode designed to improve maneuverability despite its size.

Technology is another major focus. Every Da Tang EV comes equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor capable of supporting advanced highway and urban driving assistance features.

Inside, BYD has adopted a unique 2+2+3 seating configuration that includes dual zero-gravity front seats and aviation-style captain’s chairs in the second row. The layout is designed to maximize passenger comfort while maintaining seven-passenger capacity.

The Da Tang EV fills an important gap in BYD’s product portfolio and positions the company more aggressively against rivals including Nio’s Onvo brand, Leapmotor, Li Auto, and Huawei-backed Aito. With more than 150,000 pre-orders already recorded and BYD recently returning to sales growth, the launch could become one of the company’s most significant product introductions of the year.
