Geely Updates Galaxy E5 With 6C Charging, LiDAR and Up to 635 km of Range

Geely has launched an extensively updated Galaxy E5 electric SUV in China, adding 800-volt architecture, 6C charging, optional roof-mounted LiDAR and a more powerful 245-kW (329-hp) motor to most variants.

The top-spec version offers a 635-km (395-mile) CLTC range, while the updated SUV can charge from 10% to 70% in as little as 8 minutes and 25 seconds.

800V variants gain faster charging and more power

The updated Galaxy E5 is offered in five core variants plus a version with an additional technology package. All but the entry-level model use an 800-volt electrical architecture and switch from front-wheel drive with a front-mounted motor to rear-wheel drive.

The core variants use Geely’s Leishen 16-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, producing up to 245 kW (329 hp). That’s an 85-kW increase over the previous model’s 160-kW motor, while the quickest version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds, according to CNEV Post.

The entry-level Global Classic version with 530 km (329 miles) of CLTC range retains a 400-volt system, front-wheel drive and a 160-kW motor. Its DC charging rate is 1.8C.

The 800V variants use Geely’s new-generation Shendun Golden Battery with ultra-short blade cells. The system supports charging at up to 6C and peak charging power of 460 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 70% in 8 minutes and 25 seconds under normal ambient temperatures.

LiDAR and more technology join the updated E5

The updated Galaxy E5 uses three LFP battery options with capacities of 60.22 kWh, 61.52 kWh and 70.01 kWh. Depending on the configuration, CLTC range is rated at 530 km (329 miles), 550 km (342 miles) or 635 km (395 miles).

Selected versions add roof-mounted LiDAR and Geely’s Afari Smart Driving H5 system, which uses 27 high-performance sensors to support urban and highway Navigation on Autopilot.

Inside, the SUV gets Flyme Auto 2, powered by a 4-nanometer Longying cockpit chip. Other features include a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, head-up display and 23-speaker audio system. The updated model also adds a 160-liter front trunk.

The Galaxy E5 measures 4,636 mm (182.5 inches) long, 1,920 mm (75.6 inches) wide and 1,670 mm (65.7 inches) tall, with a 2,750-mm (108.3-inch) wheelbase. It is 21 mm (0.8 inches) longer and 19 mm (0.7 inches) wider than its predecessor, while height and wheelbase remain unchanged.

Introductory pricing ranges from 97,800 yuan to 137,800 yuan, while official guide prices range from 107,800 yuan to 147,800 yuan. The Galaxy E5 is also sold internationally as the Geely EX5 and Proton eMas 7.
