GAC Aion RT Comes With Up To 650 KM Of Range, Advanced Autonomous Driving Tech, And Fast-Charging Capabilities

GAC Aion, the electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of the GAC Group, has officially launched pre-sales for its latest offering, the Aion RT. This all-electric sedan, also known as “Velociraptor” in Chinese, is set to compete in the increasingly crowded mid-size EV segment in China.
According to GAC Aion, the Aion RT is available in four trim levels, with prices ranging from 119,800 to 169,800 yuan (around $17,100 to $24,200), positioning it as an attractive option for buyers looking for a feature-rich electric sedan at an accessible price point.
Buyers can choose between two range options: a 520 km (323 miles) CLTC range variant and an extended 650 km (404 miles) CLTC range model. This competitive pricing and range strategy aims to appeal to a broad spectrum of EV buyers in the Chinese market.

Built on GAC’s AEP 3.0 pure electric platform, the Aion RT showcases the company’s latest technological advancements. The powertrain options include two motor versions: 150 kW (201 horsepower) and 165 kW (221 horsepower), both in a front-wheel-drive configuration with a top speed of 163 km/h (101 mph). The lithium iron phosphate batteries, supplied by a CATL-GAC joint venture, come in two capacity options: 55.1 kWh and 68.1 kWh.
One of the RT’s standout features is its 400V silicon carbide 3C fast charging technology. According to GAC Aion, a 10-minute charge provides 200 km of range, while charging from 30% to 80% takes just 18 minutes.
The Aion RT also brings impressive autonomous driving capabilities. It’s equipped with a 126-line variable-focus LiDAR, three millimeter-wave radars, and 11 cameras, all powered by an NVIDIA Orin X intelligent driving chip. This advanced system enables end-to-end assisted driving on highways and urban roads, including obstacle detection and avoidance features.

In terms of design, the Aion RT embraces a philosophy centered on “Human-Machine Symbiosis Aesthetics.” The exterior features sleek, aerodynamic lines with hidden door handles, distinctive polygonal front headlights with upward-pointing light strips, and “Starlock” design wheels.
With dimensions of 4,865 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,775 mm, the RT offers a spacious interior while maintaining a stylish exterior profile. Buyers can choose from seven exterior color options to suit their preferences.

For the interior, the RT offers a modern and comfortable cabin. The minimalist design includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.6-inch floating central control screen, powered by the ADiGO 5.0 system. Comfort features include dual electric panoramic sunroofs, an 11-speaker audio system, and a spacious 540L trunk that can accommodate four 24-inch and one 20-inch suitcase.
Moreover, GAC Aion has prioritized passenger comfort with soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, double-layer high-density sponge seats, and generous rear headroom of 940 mm and legroom of 943 mm.

With GAC Aion continuing to expand its EV lineup, the RT represents a significant step into the competitive A+ segment of all-electric sedans. While the official market launch date has not yet been announced, the start of pre-sales suggests that Chinese buyers will soon have another compelling option in China’s rapidly evolving EV landscape.
As established automakers and new entrants continue to introduce advanced, feature-rich models at competitive price points, Chinese buyers are benefiting from an ever-expanding range of choices in the EV segment, the success of models like the Aion RT will contribute to accelerating EV adoption in China and potentially influence global EV trends.
