This Landmark Financing Will Enable EVgo To Build 7,500 New DC Fast-Charging Stalls

In a significant boost to the United States (U.S.)’ electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, EVgo has received a conditional commitment for a $1.05 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This landmark financing, if finalized, will accelerate the expansion of EVgo’s public fast-charging network across the country.
According to EVgo, the loan, provided through the DOE’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) under its Title 17 program, is set to fund the construction of approximately 7,500 new DC fast-charging stalls. Key aspects of the project include:
EVgo CEO Badar Khan emphasized the company’s alignment with the administration’s goals, stating, “EVgo shares the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of increasing EV charging access in the communities that need it most. This historic investment would meaningfully accelerate our network expansion to provide public charging to EV drivers across the United States.”
The financing structure is notable for its flexibility:
EVgo’s expansion will complement the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program’s corridor charging efforts by focusing on community charging stations. The company also plans to leverage the 30C tax credit, expanded under the Inflation Reduction Act, to support infrastructure buildout in rural and lower-income communities.
This development comes amidst a competitive landscape in EV charging infrastructure. This development occurs within a competitive landscape in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Currently, Tesla holds a dominant position, having deployed over 60% of public DC fast chargers as of last year.
In response to the growing demand for charging options, a consortium of eight major automakers, known as Ionna, is planning to build 30,000 DC fast chargers by 2030.
EVgo’s project, with its focus on community locations and underserved areas, positions the company to play a crucial role in the broader EV adoption landscape.
With this in development, EVgo expects to begin rolling out its next-generation charging infrastructure in the second half of 2026, promising enhanced customer experience and reliability. Notably, this also supports the Biden administration’s goal of building a nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030.
As the EV market continues to grow, this partnership between EVgo and the DOE represents a significant step toward creating a more accessible and equitable charging network across the U.S., potentially accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation.
