EVgo Expands Compatibility of Autocharge+ Feature To Over 50 EV Models

EVgo, a public fast-charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States (U.S.), announced a major expansion to its Autocharge+ feature. More than 50 different EV models are now eligible to use the company’s fast-charging technology, marking a significant leap forward in streamlining the EV charging experience for all EV drivers.

Autocharge+ is designed to facilitate the EV charging process by stopping the need for tiring steps such as opening an app, swiping a credit card, or using an RFID card. As a solution, EV drivers can now initiate fast charging sessions with ease by merely plugging in their EVs.

Since its foundation in September 2022, Autocharge+ has quickly gained attention across the EVgo network. In 2023 alone, the percentage of charging sessions using Autocharge+ nearly doubled, accounting for around 17% of all charging sessions initiated in the fourth quarter.

Notably, a majority of EVs with CCS connectors are compatible with Autocharge+, including Tesla models that support the CCS Combo 1 Adapter. Moreover, EVgo has plans to expand its support for Autocharge+ through its integrated NACS connectors once it is integrated across the network.

Stacey Stewart, Senior Vice President of Charging at EVgo, accentuated the significance of delivering an easy charging experience to drive widespread EV adoption in the U.S., stating, “The key to achieving widespread EV adoption in the U.S. is giving EV drivers a convenient, streamlined charging experience, and Autocharge+ does just that.”

In addition, the Autocharge+ feature also contributes to EVgo’s “One & Done” success rate, which measures and evaluates the EV driver’s ability to successfully initiate a charging session on your first attempt. By integrating payment and session initiation in one step, Autocharge+ has improved EVgo’s One & Done success rate by six percentage points in 2023.
