Electrify America and Rocky Mountain Power Launch Hyper-Fast EV Charging Network in Utah

Electrify America’s business unit, Electrify Commercial, has partnered with Rocky Mountain Power to roll out 20 new DC fast charging stations across Utah for electric vehicle (EV) owners.

In detail, the initiative of the partnership will entail the deployment of over 80 chargers at 15 DC fast charging stations in the Salt Lake City region and five stations in surrounding regions. As of now, four charging stations have already come online in Millcreek, Vernal, Moab, and Kimball Junction, with more to follow.

Each charging station will feature “hyper-fast” chargers capable of delivering fast-charging speeds up to 350 kW. Rocky Mountain Power, the only rate-regulated public utility providing electric service in Utah, will own and operate these new charging stations, setting the pricing, and offering discounted rates to its utility customers.

Furthermore, all 20 of Utah’s new DC fast charging stations will be featured on Electrify America’s coast-to-coast “locate a charger” map. This map includes more than 950 stations and over 4,250 chargers in the United States (U.S.) and Canada. As a result, this integration will make it more convenient for EV owners to search and access these new charging points.

Notably, the new charging stations are part of Rocky Mountain Power’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program. This includes a $50 million investment in EV charging infrastructure across Utah.

James Cambell, Rocky Mountain Power innovation and sustainability policy director, expressed enthusiasm for the new fast-charging stations stating, “These public fast-charging stations will help EV drivers in the communities we serve connect to the economic benefits of clean transportation, while helping improve air quality for all Utahns.”

As Utah aims to increase its EV adoption rate, the partnership between Electrify America and Rocky Mountain Power showcases a big step in its expanding EV infrastructure.
