Chevy Just Did It: The 2027 Bolt Is Now America’s Cheapest New EV

Chevrolet has officially revived its most popular electric model, and this time, it’s built for value. The 2027 Chevy Bolt will launch early next year with a starting price of $28,995, instantly becoming America’s most affordable new EV.

Offering 255 miles of range, 150 kW charging, and a sharper, modernized design, the new Bolt aims to put everyday drivers back in the EV conversation.

GM bets on affordability with next-gen battery tech

General Motors has doubled down on affordability by using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, known for being cheaper, longer-lasting, and easier to mass-produce. Initially imported from China before domestic production begins, these packs allow Chevy to keep costs low while improving efficiency.

The new 65 kWh battery boosts range over the previous Bolt EUV’s 247 miles and can now charge from 10–80% in just 26 minutes, a major leap from the old model’s 55 kW ceiling. Chevy also added a Tesla-style NACS port, ensuring future charging compatibility across the EV maker’s expansive Supercharger Network in across North America.

Performance-wise, the 210-horsepower front-wheel-drive setup provides lively acceleration, while three trims: LT, LT Comfort, and RS, give buyers flexibility. The RS trim adds sportier styling, according to InsideEVs.

A long-awaited comeback for EV shoppers on a budget

The new Bolt returns at a crucial moment for EV adoption. With Tesla seemingly abandoning its $25K model plans and federal tax credits shrinking, mainstream buyers have fewer affordable electric options. The Bolt’s pricing and practicality position it as a genuine alternative to compact gas crossovers.

Inside, it sports an 11.3-inch touchscreen, digital gauge cluster, and optional Super Cruise driver-assist system. Production begins at GM’s Fairfax, Kansas plant, with deliveries expected in early 2026. Given the Bolt’s loyal following and refreshed specs, Chevy’s electric comeback could prove to be its smartest yet.
