Cadillac Opulent Velocity Features Dual-Mode Driving And A Futuristic Design At Monterey Car Week

Cadillac has taken the wraps off its new concept electric vehicle (EV), the Opulent Velocity, at Monterey Car Week. This sleek and futuristic 2+2 coupe brings EV technology with Cadillac’s signature opulence, showcasing the company’s next generation of its V-series performance line.
According to Cadillac, the Opulent Velocity concept is a departure from conventional automotive design with its long and low-slung silhouette that is decorated with dramatic butterfly doors that span both seating rows. The exterior design comes finished in Gilded Pearl paint, that features a pointed nose flanked by Cadillac’s vertical light elements. The rear marks a full-width pinstripe taillight design, while crystal fluting adorns various lighting elements.

As for the interior, the Opulent Velocity concept is wrapped in a deep Selene Blue hue with seats crafted from flax fibers under a layer of silver pearl flakes. Moreover, a widescreen display looms over the dashboard, complemented by a secondary screen integrated into the Y-shaped steering wheel. Also, the use of 3D-printed components and advanced materials was done through Cadillac’s automotive craftsmanship.

One of the most enticing features of the Opulent Velocity is its dual-mode driving experience. In “Opulent” mode, the EV operates as a Level 4 autonomous car, allowing occupants to relax while being immersed in multisensory experiences created through light, sound, and augmented reality displays. Interestingly, the steering wheel and pedals retract, transforming the cabin into a mobile lounge.

In terms of its “Velocity” mode, it unleashes the concept’s performance potential. Inspired by Cadillac’s Blackwing and motorsports heritage, this mode brings out a “hypercar personality.” The steering wheel and pedals emerge, and drivers can fine-tune active aerodynamics and suspension settings. A unique “Ghost Car” feature projects a guide onto the head-up display, helping drivers improve their lap times on the track.

While details of the Cadillac Opulent Velocity have not been disclosed, tight-lipped about specific powertrain details, it has been expected that it utilize a future iteration of General Motors’ (GM) Ultium battery platform.
Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac’s design director, stated that the Opulent Velocity represents “future electrification design expressions” for the brand. Despite the likelihood of the EV reaching production, elements of its design and technology are expected to influence future Cadillac models, particularly in the performance EV segment.
Recently, Cadillac also revealed another concept EV, the SOLLEI, which was showcased in its 2+2 drop-top build that draws inspiration from the company’s renowned convertibles of the 1950s. With this in mind, Cadillac is positively affecting EV innovative design with these EV concepts.

With the introduction of the Cadillac Opulent Velocity, it demonstrates the company’s lineup of understanding that the future of luxury performance vehicles can be produced with electric powertrains while taking in further innovation.
