General Motors issued a service update for certain 2026 model year Cadillac Optiq units after identifying a software-related issue that can affect braking performance under specific low-speed conditions.

The company said the condition is linked to the brake system control module and can be addressed through a software update, with no hardware replacement required.

Service update targets low-speed braking response in Cadillac Optiq

The issue is outlined in Service Update N252528241 and applies to select units of the Cadillac Optiq. According to the bulletin, braking performance may be reduced in certain scenarios, particularly during low-speed ABS braking when transitioning from smooth to uneven road surfaces.

According to GM Authority, GM said the condition may cause inconsistent braking feel. The issue is not tied to any mechanical defect in the braking system. Instead, it is related to how the brake system control module software interprets and responds to changing surface conditions.

The company emphasized that the update is not classified as a recall. It applies to vehicles in dealer inventory as well as units already delivered to customers.

Software fix deployed via OTA and dealer updates

To resolve the issue, General Motors is instructing dealers to reprogram the brake system control module with updated software. The fix is being rolled out in phases and can also be delivered through over the air updates.

This allows owners to receive the update without visiting a dealership, although dealers can perform the procedure manually if needed. GM said the programming and verification process typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

Because the solution is software-based, no physical components need to be replaced. The service update will remain active through May 31, 2028.

GM also noted that the same service update applies to certain units of the Chevy Equinox EV.
